PDP Crisis: We’re Making Every Effort To Resolve Issues – Turaki

The ongoing crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a new turn as factional chairman, Umar Damagum Turaki, has assured party members that efforts are being made to resolve internal disputes.

Speaking amid growing concerns over division within the opposition party, Turaki emphasised that leadership is actively working behind the scenes to restore unity and stability.

PDP Leadership Moves To End Crisis

According to Turaki, the party remains committed to addressing grievances raised by aggrieved members and factions within the Peoples Democratic Party.

He noted that ongoing consultations and reconciliatory meetings are aimed at finding lasting solutions to the lingering issues affecting the party’s structure.

“We are making every effort to resolve the issues. The unity of the party is very important to us,” he stated.

Internal Disputes Threaten Party Stability

The PDP has been battling internal conflicts for months, with disagreements over leadership positions, party structure, and political strategy ahead of future elections.

These divisions have sparked concerns among party supporters, with many calling for urgent intervention to prevent further fragmentation.

Political analysts warn that unresolved disputes could weaken the PDP’s chances in upcoming elections if not properly handled.

Calls For Unity Grow Louder

Party stakeholders and loyalists have continued to urge leaders to prioritise unity and put aside personal interests for the collective good of the party.

Turaki reassured members that all necessary steps are being taken to reconcile differences and strengthen the party moving forward.

Turaki made the assertion in a statement on Wednesday, speaking on the state of the reconciliation initiative to resolve the lingering issues.

He said that leaders on both sides have broken the ice and are exploring various pathways towards a lasting resolution.

Turaki called on party supporters across the board to immediately de-escalate high-tempered communications and actions, so as not to jeopardise the ongoing peace efforts.

He assured all aspirants who have stood with the party thus far that the PDP will field candidates for all elective offices, in compliance with Article 6(2) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).

“We also sincerely appreciate Nigerians across the country who have continued to show interest in our party and have registered via our e-registration platform, http://iampdp.org.

“Despite recent challenges, the faith of our core supporters remains unshaken. It is for them that we are making every effort to resolve the issues before us.

“As we are aware, democracy is not merely about the periodic conduct of elections; it also requires a virile opposition and an active civil society to hold the government accountable.

“As Nigeria’s only surviving legacy party in the current republic, with the rare privilege of having led this country for 16 years, we remain committed to defending and consolidating our democracy, even as an opposition party.

“We call on those in authority to remain conscious that they are delegates of the people, and that their actions must, at all times, align with the will of the people. Ultimate power resides with the people; it must therefore remain the centrepiece of governance,” Turaki said
