Wizkid faces backlash over Afro Plus Fest performance.

Afrobeat singer Wizkid is facing backlash after his headline performance at the 2026 Afro Plus Fest in Maryland, United States, with some attendees criticising his stage presence and comparing his set to those of other artists at the festival.

Wizkid headlined the final day of the three-day festival at the Northwest Stadium Complex in Landover on Sunday, September 6. He performed a selection of songs from across his career as he marked 15 years in the music industry.

However, the performance has drawn criticism online after an attendee, Ella (@EllaFypp on X), said she and her friends left before the set had reached an hour because they were dissatisfied with Wizkid’s performance.

In her post, Ella criticised the singer’s delivery and said she would have preferred Burna Boy to have been booked for the festival instead. In her words:

“Why is Wizkid’s DJ telling me to delete my recent tweet? Lmao. I paid for the concert, didn’t like Wizkid’s performance, and I have every right to speak. Tunez, stop threatening me in my DMs.”

Other social media users have also criticised Wizkid’s performance, with some comparing his set with Davido’s appearance on the opening day of the festival.

One attendee said those who watched both performances could tell “who came to PERFORM and who came to simply APPEAR,” while others have defended Wizkid and praised his form.

The 2026 Afro Plus Fest ran from September 4 to 6 and featured Davido, Alkaline and Wizkid as its three headliners. The wider lineup included Tems, Ayra Starr, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Lil Baby, Latto, Chief Keef, Sexyy Red and several other African, Caribbean and American acts.
