The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, has deployed 2,150 officers and men across the state to ensure security during the Sallah celebration and protect critical national assets and infrastructure.

The command also said the deployment was aimed at preventing vandalism and other criminal activities before, during and after the festive period.

Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, stressing the need for early deployment of security personnel due to the expected influx of travellers and visitors into Lagos during the celebration.

According to him, the command had put in place operational strategies to curb criminal activities and safeguard lives and property across the state.

“The officers and men across all formations of the command have been charged to bring the right and appropriate impetus on board to protect all strategic locations, facilities, right of ways, oil pipeline installations, religious and worship centres, parks, gardens and all critical national assets and infrastructure in the state,” Keshinro said.

He directed officers and personnel to remain on red alert while carrying out their responsibilities and urged them to maintain professionalism and respect the rights of residents in the course of their duties.

Keshinro also congratulated Muslim faithful on the occasion of the Sallah celebration and urged them to imbibe the virtues of sacrifice, prayer, compassion and faith symbolised by Prophet Ibrahim.

He further called on residents to use the period to pray for the unity, peace and progress of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, urged residents to maintain proper sanitation and dispose of waste responsibly during and after the festivities.

Corps Marshal of LAGESC, Major Olaniyi Cole (retd.), said the Sallah celebration remains significant to Muslims worldwide as it commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience to Allah.

“While Lagos residents and particularly Muslim faithful celebrate in Lagos, we keep advocating for the promotion of proper waste disposal, patronage of Private Sector Participant operators and adoption of environmentally friendly choices,” Cole stated.

He disclosed that operatives had been directed to intensify monitoring of environmental infractions, arrest offenders and sensitise residents on compliance with environmental laws.

Cole also warned traders against displaying wares on road setbacks, lay-bys, kerbs, road verges, medians and gutter slabs, noting that street trading obstructs vehicular and pedestrian movement.

He further advised commuters to use pedestrian bridges while crossing highways to avoid accidents caused by reckless motorists.
