Mo Abudu turns 62, says age will not stop her from building

Nigerian media entrepreneur and filmmaker Mo Abudu has turned 62, using her birthday to reflect on the major projects she started at different stages of her career.

Abudu, who celebrated her birthday on September 11, said she began her media career at 40 with Moments with Mo, made her first film at 50 and launched EbonyLife Place in Lagos at 55.

“Today is my birthday and I turned 62. I made my first film when I turned 50. Never ever let your dream stop you. At 55, I started Ebony Life Place in Lagos,” she said.

She listed some of the film projects that followed her first production, including The Wedding Party, Chief Daddy, Òlòtūré and Blood Sisters. She also highlighted The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, which EbonyLife Films is bringing to the big screen in 2026.

Abudu said her latest project is the expansion of EbonyLife Place to London. The London location is scheduled to open in October 2026 and will include a cinema dedicated to African and Black films, alongside spaces for food, music, fashion and art.

“At 55, I started Ebony Life Place in Lagos, and now at 62, I’m taking it to London, so when I say never let your age stop you, I really mean it,” she said.

She added that she is still building and creating at 62, urging people not to consider age a barrier to pursuing new projects.

“Your age is not your limitation, so wherever you are in your life, please do not tell yourself that it is too late,” Abudu said.
