Tolu Fagbure Questions Tayo Sobola’s Casting Range Over Her Tattoo
Nollywood movie critic and filmmaker Tolu Fagbure has sparked discussion after arguing that actress Tayo Sobola, popularly known as Sotayo Gaga, could face limitations when being considered for certain movie roles because of her permanent tattoo.
Fagbure explains his criticism
Fagbure made the comments while discussing the importance of professional training for actors during an interview with Dele Adeyanju on Agbaletu TV.
According to him, Sobola is still trainable but has lost some casting opportunities because of the tattoo on her arm, particularly when she chooses outfits that leave it visible.
He questioned whether such a permanent body marking could fit roles portraying characters such as a traditional or responsible housewife or a child.
Why the filmmaker believes tattoos can affect casting
Fagbure argued that actors should consider how permanent physical features can affect their versatility on screen.
He said actors should ideally avoid body markings, piercings or other permanent features that cannot easily be altered for different roles.
His comments were framed around what he described as the need for better professional training and awareness among actors about the demands of screen roles.
Tayo Sobola’s acting career
Sobola, also known as Sotayo Gaga, is an actress, filmmaker and producer who has appeared in numerous Nollywood productions. She has also previously spoken about being selective with the roles she accepts, particularly after marriage.
Fagbure’s latest remarks have therefore raised a wider conversation about whether an actor’s personal appearance should influence the types of characters they can portray.
